Any experienced international fly fishing angler will probably tell you that the best bonefishing lodge in the Bahamas is Bair's. Although the fishing resource is excellent all over South Andros, Bair's has easy access to some of the most untouched waters anywhere in this region of the Caribbean. However, it's really the professional fishing guides at Bair's that makes the difference. One will not find more experienced, professional, and courteous bonefishing guides in the Bahamas-anywhere. Your fishing trip to the Bahamas will be one that you will forever treasure, and skill and diligence of these young men will be one of the main reasons why.
Getting There: Those who choose to make the short journey to the Bahamas for bonefishing from the USA can fly directly from Florida via Charter (1 hour flight) and clear customs at Congo Town Airport, or alternatively, there are also four daily commercial flights from Nassau to Congo Town, from there, the drive to the lodge is approximately twenty minutes.

Bair's Lodge is a bonefishing destination. The mission here is to catch two to four pound bonefish, and lots of them. Our guides' local knowledge is exceptional, and their expertise will transfer into fish on your line-guaranteed. Every now and then, tarpon and permit are encountered while you are sight casting for bonefish, and often end up being landed. Rarely, but occasionally, barracuda, jacks and several types of snapper are also caught.
For billfishing aficionados, offshore fishing can be arranged seasonally for billfish species, wahoo, tuna, and dorado if you desire to fish for large game fish as well. The dorado is an excellent eating fish, and they are very plentiful.
Bair's Lodge offers easy access to the flats, and our boats are docked right by the lodge. The modern fleet of is made up of 18ft dolphin skiffs, all powered by Mercury outboards.
Please consider bringing the following types of fly fishing gear:
- Nine foot, six to nine weight fly rod with 200 yards of 20 lb backing and floating lines made for saltwater.
- Eight to twelve foot bonefish leaders with eight to sixteen test tippets. The best flies for bonefishing: we suggest pink and tan patterns-because we seem to have the most success with those.
- "Gotcha's" are especially effective as well as shrimp and crab patterns.
- Bring size 2-8 hooks, as well as your personal fly tying kit if you wish, although we have everything you will need for tying flies in the guesthouse.
- If you decide to bring spinning gear: bring a six to seven foot ultra light, or medium rod, with at least 200 yards of six to ten pound test line. Please bring the following lures with you: small jigs, pink or tan, and bring plenty because they are not available on the island. Loaner rods and reels are available if you do not wish to bring your own.
The fishing schedule can be tailored to suit your particular needs, or the needs of your group, however, a typical day will start with breakfast at 7:00 AM, and the fishing begins at 8:00 AM and ends around 4:00-5:00 PM. Picnic lunches and cold drinks are taken to the flats in a cooler by your guide.
All bonefishing at Bairs Lodge is a strictly CATCH AND RELEASE.
