THE ANGLING

Golden Dorado fishing in Argentina is famous, and nowhere else in Argentina are these fish more abundant than here in the rivers, and tributaries of the Ibera marsh.  No fishing in our area is out of reach for the intrepid angler because our Hell’s Bay flats boats offer incredible reach throughout the marsh, getting Dorado anglers to their fishing spots quickly and safely.

The clarity of the water in the Iberá mash is what makes this area so perfect for the angler who desires to catch a dorado on the fly. So many other areas of Argentina known to possess some of the best dorado fishing in the world are often located in regions of muddy water that is more suited to trolling than fly casting.   Here one will find not only spectacular Dorado fishing but also beautiful scenery that will make you long to return for a Dorado fishing trip northern Argentina.  Floating lines, steel leaders, and traditional saltwater streamers are a must, as these ferocious fighting machines will destroy any type of tackle put before them with their iron jaws and razor sharp teeth.

Fly anglers can bring their own assortment of streamers, and/or use Pira’s own local patterns. Traditional saltwater streamers and deceivers in black, purple, and chartreuse are very effective on the golden dorado in Argentina. Just keep in mind that when you are dorado fishing Ibera marsh, that the water here is very clear, offering plenty of opportunities for sight casting with light spinning tackle and fly rods with lengths of even to nine feet.  9-foot rods are recommended, and all anglers should have floating and sinking heads.

The fishing schedules depend on the time of year, and the weather. In the spring we will usually begin dorado fishing at 8:00AM and take a break at 12:30PM for lunch back at the lodge, followed by the afternoon fishing outing that starts at 3:30PM and last until 7:30 or so.

You can expect to hook up on 10-20 Dorados per day, and once hooked up, your reel will be sizzling as the hard-fighting Dorado strips drag from your reel, and makes run after run in an attempt to escape being landed.  Not only do these fish fight like a big Rockfish, they jump like Tarpon too!  You will be in for the fight of a lifetime…and whether the fish ends up in the boat, or not, it will be a fight that you will never forget.

Nervous Waters has some of the best fishing guides in South America working at Pira.   All speak English fluently, and are certified fly casting instructors.  Our fly fishing guides can offer as much, or as little assistance as you desire during your fly fishing trip to Argentina, so just let us know what your particular skill level is, and we will host you accordingly.
