Here is a short Description of Wing Shooting the World's Mexico Quail Hunting Program in the Yucatan. Not just anybody can operate hunting and shooting trips in Mexico. To do so takes experience, dedication, and yes, connections. These are all qualities Ryan McCollum and Wing Shooting The World brings to the table after operating over twelve years in everywhere from Mexico to Bolivia to Alaska and elsewhere in North and South America. So not only does WSTW have the background and experience-but they have the perspective, so when they say something is "good"--- it is.

How good is the quail hunting on the Yucatan? How about this? It's common to contact 25 to 30 coveys of wild black-throated quail per day on the Yucatan, and under ideal conditions not uncommon at all to move many, many more! If you are an upland bird shooter, that kind of quail hunting is what you travel for, and this is the place you travel to. Wing Shooting the World, working with the guides of Yucatan Outfitters are ideally positioned to introduce the traveling upland shooter to some of the fastest quail action ever discovered. It's easy to reach, easy walking with light cover and flat country, and you'll hunt over the good pointing dogs from the WSTW string; they'll go starch stiff over every covey. There's no where else you'll ever see upland gunning this fast, with great weather and accommodations as a decided bonus to your hunting experience.

Getting There It's easy to get to. To reach the Yucatan, you simply fly to Cancun, Mexico which is served by myriad commercial carriers and charter airlines from almost every major US city. Cancun is a major tourist destination, so clearing customs is a breeze, once you emerge from customs, WSTW will greet you at the airport and transfer you about 2 1/2 hours on paved highway in their air conditioned trucks and vans. You will want to get to Cancun on the first day at noon or before so you will be able to hunt the afternoon of your arrival day. This is usually possible from most cities east of the Mississippi.

THE HUNT

After your day or arrival hunt, you'll then enjoy two full days of quail hunting the following days. The last day you'll have a morning quail hunt, and then be transferred back to Cancun for flights home, or, consider staying a few more days on the beaches, or meet up with wives or significant others. WSTW hunts birds over well trained pointing dogs, and morning hunting begins at first light and lasts until around 10:00 in the morning. Following the morning hunt, there is time for photos and the usual discussion about hits and misses, you'll then be taken to an open air restaurant on the beach for lunch featuring some of the Yucatan's famous seafood. After lunch, you'll have time for a siesta or go sightseeing in a small Mexican village. Quail hunting resumes late afternoon, and continues until dark.

THE ACCOMMODATIONS

Not many quail hunts can boast the kind of accommodations you’ll find on the Yucatan Peninsula! Our lodge is bright and open and built in the typical style of the region, with both covered dining and open-air dining areas to take advantage of our great weather. We have air conditioned rooms, each with private bath and a generous pool for swimming and relaxing after the hunting day.  Each and every lodge is a clean, comfortable sporting lodge with private rooms and baths and a full staff at each location. Some sport amenities such as satellite television or billiard tables. Delightful meals are served, ranging from grilled meats and chicken to local specialties. And there's never a shortage of cold beer and fine wines, plus excellent desserts made by the lodge chefs.
