the following destinations:

Los Gauchos Outfitters – Argentina Dorado Fishing
Geographical Location: Concordia, Argentina: 3.5 hours north of Buenos Aires International Airport.

Along the banks of the Uruguay River, sits the historic city of Concordia, Argentina, and most importantly the location of some of the biggest and best Golden Dorado fishing in Argentina  Belay that, the best dorado fishing in South America.

For those not familiar with the freshwater dorado, it is a large fishing belonging to the salmon family, but that is where it ends, this incredible fighting machine pulls like a striper, and jumps like a tarpon!  The dorado has razor sharp teeth, and is affectionately know as, “The River Tiger” by the South Americans.

You too will see what it is like to fight the tiger when you hook up with these big fish, because they are notorious for making long run, after long run—stripping line off of your reel before you finally—depending on your skills—land this beast in the boat.

Dorado fishing in South America is awesome, and nobody does it better than Los Gauchos.  We will get you in the location where you can hook up 10-20 times per day on dorados that average 8 pounds, and grow as large as 50lbs.

Nervous Waters - Pira Lodge
Geographical Location: Corrientes, Argentina: a 2 hour flight north from Buenos Aires.  The lodge at Pira is located 30 minutes from the national airport in Corrientes city.

Pira Lodge offers some of the best Dorado fishing in Argentina in the legendary Iberá Marsh, one of the largest and most spectacular wetlands for hunting and fishing in South America.

Literally millions of acres of pristine fish and wildlife habitat span this secluded region of northeastern Argentina, and the vast ecosystem found here in the Iberá marsh is more than two and a half times larger than the Florida Everglades! The waters here are crystal clear-offering rare sight fishing, and fly fishing opportunities for this amazing fish; mainly because this fish is not normally very visible in the murky waters so common to many of the other dorado fishing rivers in South America.

Frankly, it does not really matter what part of the world you are in when you hook up on a Dorado, because it will be an experience that you will never forget. Freshwater dorado will strip line out of your reel so fast it will make it sizzle and burn, and dorado are famous for making run after run, trying to break the hold of the offending hook by using their iron jaws and sharp teeth, as well as attempting to maneuver themselves under, around, or on top of any available rock, stump, or other vegetation available to tangle up in.

Most fly fishing guides in Argentina will tell you to bring your own assortment of streamers, and/or purchase them from whichever dorado fishing lodge in Argentina that you will be visiting. Pira's has its own local patterns for sale in the fly shop, but any traditional saltwater streamers and deceivers in black, purple, and chartreuse will be very effective on all golden dorado in South America.

There is just no doubt about it . Fishing for dorado in Argentina is some of the most fun that you can have with a fishing rod, and Pira Lodge is a great starting place for a classic fishing vacation to South America that is sure to go down in your journal as one of the most exciting international fishing trips that you have ever taken in your life.
